Axiom Charity Golf Tournament to Support Washington Area Fisher Houses

August 25, 2005

Falls Church, Virginia. Axiom Resource Management, Inc. announced today that the company has concluded arrangements for its fourth annual charity golf tournament. Each year Axiom's staff, friends, and supporters gather for a day of good cheer and camaraderie, with proceeds from the golf tourney benefiting the Fisher House Foundation. By special arrangement, 100 percent of the money donated this year will be dedicated to supporting the Fisher House mission at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, and Malcolm Grow Medical Center.

"Last year's tournament raised over $16,000 for the Fisher House Foundation," said Axiom founder and president Ben Hankins, "and that money helped Washington-area Fisher Houses serve the families of America's wounded service members. We're definitely hoping to top last year's donation, and to help the Foundation continue in its vital work," he added.

Fisher Houses are located on the campus of 33 military and veterans medical centers, offering families the chance to stay as close as possible to loved ones requiring hospitalization for illnesses, wounds, or other injuries.

Each year Fisher Houses provide a home away from home for 7,000 families, and since the first Fisher House opened in 1990, more than 1.5 million days of lodging have been extended to families of veterans, active duty personnel, or family members receiving treatment at military and veterans medical centers.

This year's tournament gets underway at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 19th, at the Gunston course at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia (check-in begins at 9 a.m.) Registration fees are $100 per player. Golfers may choose to register as individuals or to build a foursome and register as a team. Registration closes Friday, September 30th.

Fisher Houses open their doors to eligible families, often at no cost. When families can help defray the costs of housing the average charge is less than $10 a day. Compared to prices at local hotels, Fisher Houses have saved participating families as much as $60 million since the program began.

"Fisher Houses work miracles for military families every day," said Frank Cumberland, Axiom vice-president for communications, "and with our nation at war, we can't imagine a better organization for Axiom to support than the Fisher House Foundation."
