Hershel Gober Appointed to Virginia Board of Veterans Services

July 24, 2003

Falls Church, Virginia. Hershel Gober, former Acting Secretary of Veterans Affairs and president of Axiom's Gober Keener Associates Division, was appointed by Virginia Governor Mark Warner to serve as a member of the state's new Board of Veterans Services. The Board of Veterans Services is one of three new boards established as part of a reorganization to improve the delivery of services to military veterans living in the Commonwealth.

"Hershel's current and previous roles are a testament to his commitment to aiding military veterans," said Axiom President Ben Hankins. "His dedication to making a difference can be seen in the level of support our Gober Keener Associates Division provides to clients."

As Acting Secretary, and then Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Gober was responsible for a nationwide system of healthcare services, benefits programs, and national cemeteries for America's veterans and their families. He led the department's healthcare system transformation into patient-centered networks.

Axiom's establishment of the Gober Keener Associates Division in 2002 created a pathway for Axiom to continue providing high quality support to the Department of Veterans Affairs. The division provides cabinet-level consultancy services for federal procurement, regulation, legislation, and healthcare, as well as alternative dispute resolution in the workplace.

"I look forward to serving on the new veterans board just as I have served with Axiom to support government agencies for veterans," said Gober.

Axiom has a rich history of providing diverse, specialized support to government agencies in their mission to provide care for veterans and their families. Axiom's support to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, TRICARE Management Activity, and other clients includes program management, acquisitions, logistics and information technology support.

In March, Axiom was selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs to design and maintain the department's Health Administration Center website. Axiom also is providing support to the Veterans Affairs Commission for Capital Asset Realignment for Enhanced Services.

In August, Gober will represent Axiom at the annual Department of Veterans Affairs' Information Technology meeting in Austin, Texas.

Gober's military service spanned 20 years, including tours of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army.
