Axiom Supports Award-winning DoD IT Programs
June 23, 2003
Falls Church, Virginia. Two Department of Defense (DoD) Information Technology (IT) programs that Axiom supports received governmental honors.
The Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP), supported by Axiom personnel, is the winner of the 2003 Federation of Governments Information Processing Councils Intergovernmental Solutions Award. TRICARE Online, which Axiom has supported for three years, won the 2003 Pioneers in E-Gov Award.
"Our job is to help leaders get the job done," said Axiom President Ben Hankins. "These are two great examples of how we do that."
The IT solutions Axiom has helped to develop give the military community and federal workers more efficient access to health care and accessibility to services.
CAP provides accommodations to government employees with disabilities. Since its inception, CAP has fulfilled more than 30,000 requests for accommodations for individuals with visual, hearing, dexterity, and cognitive disabilities.
"We've worked hard to extend CAP's reach to 54 other federal agencies," said Derek Shields, Axiom's technical manager of the CAP office. "At Axiom, we recognize the value of people with disabilities as members of the workforce. It's great to see this excellent program recognized."
Axiom's equal commitment to providing top quality support is in the service it provides to the TRICARE Online program.
TRICARE Online, the Military Health Systems' web-based information health portal, garnered recognition for achieving federal IT goals. TRICARE Online lets providers, managers, and beneficiaries at military health care facilities worldwide schedule appointments and perform routine health care activities online.
Nona Hall, Axiom's TRICARE Online task manager, said the program deserves to be acknowledged for its innovative approach to serving the military community's health care needs. It is the first MHS-wide IT innovation that not only services the MHS manager and provider, but it is the first to also include the largest and most important consumer - the 8.7 million beneficiaries.
"This award recognizes the tremendous innovation involved in creating TRICARE Online. Cutting-edge technology and patient-centered thinking combined to deliver a great service for TRICARE beneficiaries," said Hall. "Playing a key role with a team that makes a difference in the project management of a successful, mission-critical product is rewarding."
