Mount Vernon Community School 2008 Fun Fair
June 12, 2008
On Saturday, June 7th Axiom participated for its third year in the Mount Vernon Community School’s (MVCS) Annual Fun Fair. MVCS is located in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, VA. This sunny event provides an opportunity for students, staff and community to get together and share a summer afternoon. Just a few of this year’s attractions were moon bounces, games, and a raffle.
Axiom staff member, Cheryl Anderson, said of the event, “I wasn't sure what to expect when they asked me to work at the tattoo stand. Although it was hot, I really enjoyed spending time with the kids.” The temperature on Saturday did climb to a scorching 98 degrees, but everyone reported that they enjoyed themselves despite the high temperatures. Linda Long, another Axiom volunteer, reported that she struggled with the heat, adding “…but the kids didn’t even seem to notice!”
Axiom volunteers oversaw Fun Fair attractions such as the bean-bag toss, dunk tank, and darts. MVCS parent and Fun Fair Coordinator, Liz Wixson, spoke highly of Axiom’s team, “You guys are great! We can always count on you to show up and provide excellent support. I hope to see everyone again next year!”
This year’s Axiom team of volunteers was led by Managing Partner, Doug Peardon, and included Sterman Drain, Heather Ward, Phyllis Gaglia, Maria O’Leary, Hope Segar, Shimei Guo, Linda Long, Cheryl Anderson, Susanna Houston, and Eleanor Finley. To all of our Axiom volunteers, Great Job!
