Axiom Receives Gold Star Anchor for Fisher House Support
May 2, 2005
Falls Church, Virginia. Axiom Resource Management, Incorporated, has received the Gold Star Anchor award from the Fisher House at the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center. In a ceremony held at Bethesda on April 19th, Axiom was recognized for its leadership in fund-raising to support the Fisher House program.
Fisher Houses are located on the campus of 32 military and veterans medical centers, offering families the chance to stay as close as possible to loved ones requiring hospitalization for illnesses, wounds, or other injuries. Each year Fisher Houses provide a home away from home for 7,000 families, and since the first Fisher House opened in 1990, more than 1,500,000 days of lodging have been extended to families of veterans, active duty personnel, or family members receiving treatment at military and veterans medical centers.
In October 2004, Axiom held its annual charity golf tournament, raising over $16,000 for the Fisher Houses of the Greater Washington area. Proceeds were divided between the Fisher Houses at Bethesda, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base.
Frank Cumberland, Axiom's Vice President for Communications, Marketing, and Business Development, received the award on behalf of Axiom Partners Doug Peardon Kevin Riley. "Axiom is honored to be associated with the heroic work of the Fisher House Foundation, and we are humbled to receive this recognition," Cumberland said.
Axiom's 2005 Golf Tournament will also benefit the Fisher House program. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19th at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Other award recipients included Vice President & Mrs. Lynne Cheney; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Silver Spring Memorial Post # 2562; and Steve and Jenny Nugent, owners of Flanagan's Irish Pub.
Rear Admiral Adam Robinson, Commander, National Naval Medical Center, led the presentation of awards, and the master of ceremonies for the event was Mr. Albert Harrison, Manager, Bethesda Fisher House. Mr. Harrison noted that Axiom's Gold Anchor Star will be mounted on a beautiful, full wall mural in Bethesda's Fisher House II.
