Santa Comes to Old Town in April
April 26, 2004
Falls Church, VA. The dedicated employees of Axiom Resource Management woke up with the birds, Saturday April 24, 2004 to spend a gorgeous spring day, from 8AM to 4PM, restoring local homes for the fifth consecutive year. Homes are selected by Rebuilding Together Alexandria, formerly known as Alexandria Christmas in April.
The last Saturday in April is National Rebuilding Day, as companies sponsor homes and provide home repair services to families not financially capable of funding repairs themselves. Homeowners, who typically hear about the program through word of mouth, qualify by applying directly to Rebuilding Together Alexandria for assessments. The program assesses the homes and assigns the sponsors. Axiom, as a sponsor, worked on 2 homes this year, providing electrical work, landscaping, woodworking, cleaning and painting.
Around 50 Axiom volunteer dedicated their Saturday for the cause. Connie Rae Morgan, who brought her adult son Jason along to help, said she enjoys the team spirit of the event; "As a team, we work hard for a common business goal Monday through Friday. Christmas in April allows us to work hard for a bigger and more important goal, rebuilding our community."
Indeed, Axiom Partner Doug Peardon, stands proud of Axiom's record of providing community service year round, he explained "We are eager to fulfill our obligation to give back to the community. Christmas in April allows us an opportunity to actually help people, one on one."
The owners of both houses were overwhelmed by the generosity of the program. One owner, said with tears in her eyes, "I am so thankful for your help, there are no words to fully explain it." Mike Thornton, an Axiom employee said, "It was a perfect spring day for all of us."
