Ben Hankins Named "Role Model of the Year"

April 24, 2006

Falls Church, Virginia. The Virginia Peninsula chapter of 100 Black Men has named Benjamin B. Hankins, Jr., President and CEO of Axiom Resource Management, Inc., as their 2006 Role Model of the Year.

The award was presented to Mr. Hankins at a black-tie gala on April 22 at the Radisson Hotel in Hampton, Virginia, by Everett Browning, President of the Virginia Peninsula chapter. Among the 450 attendees were Congressman Bobby Scott; Dr. William Harvey, President of Hampton University; Joe Frank, Mayor of Newport News; and dozens of students, scholarship winners, and mentees.

"Ben Hankins is one of our own," said Mr. Browning. "He grew up in Newport News, attended our local public schools, and went on to a magnificent career in business. Ben Hankins is an inspiration for his community and a role model for our students to emulate."

As part of the ceremony, Mr. Hankins was tendered an honorary membership in the Virginia Peninsula chapter and received a lapel pin commemorating his award.

"This is an incredible honor," said Mr. Hankins in his keynote address, "and I'd like to thank my parents, my family, and all the wonderful teachers and role models that blazed the trail for me to follow. My business partners, Doug Peardon and Kevin Riley, have been vital to my success. But most importantly, I want to share a very simple message with the students, mentees, and young people here tonight: there is no magic formula for success except hard work. If you remember nothing else about this evening, remember these 7 words: Hard work will never do you wrong."

Hankins, 39, founded Axiom Resource Management, Inc., in 1996. The firm, which provides management consulting support for the federal government, now employs more than 500 people and has annual revenues exceeding $58 million. Axiom has been named one of the "55 Great Places to Work in Washington" by Washingtonian magazine and "One of the top 50 Technology Employers in Washington" by Washington Business Journal. Axiom clients include the Department of Labor, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the TRICARE Management Activity.
