Robinson Secondary Students Complete Axiom Internships

April 3, 2009

Falls Church, Virginia. Four students from Robinson Secondary School (Fairfax, Virginia) have completed a one-day business internship at Axiom Resource Management, Incorporated.

In September 2005, the Minority Students of Robinson (MSR) formed an academic-business partnership with Axiom. The program, known as "Robinson 555," has three components: five MSR students per year have the opportunity to complete one-day internships at Axiom; five students annually are invited to participate in an Axiom community-assistance effort; five students (one per year for five years) receive $1,000 college scholarships from Axiom.

Axiom hosted interns in three business areas: communications and marketing (Valerie Agyeman), human resources (Taryn Hayes and Gerri Wiggins), and accounting (Yatah Ndimufor).

"We are very proud of our relationship with the Minority Students of Robinson," said Kevin Riley, Axiom Managing Partner. "Robinson students represent the best and brightest in America, and we are honored to have them work with us in the internship program."

Axiom Vice President for Human Resources Jennifer Haines agreed. "This year's interns were fantastic-bright, inquisitive, and college-bound," she said. "I enjoyed working with them, and I feel that they've brought a huge amount of energy to the internship."

The MSR interns received an Axiom "new employee orientation" briefing to start the day. After this overview of Axiom's business goals, products, and priorities, the interns went to work in their respective business areas. After a business lunch in Alexandria, the students returned to Axiom to complete their afternoon training sessions. The internship concluded with the presentation of their internship certificates.

"Axiom allowed me to learn about how human resources helps keep the company together. I also learned about the employee benefits at Axiom," said Human Resources intern Taryn Hayes.

"Coming into Axiom as an accounting intern I was skeptical, but I enjoyed the training and found it worthwhile," said accounting intern Yatah Ndimufor.

The interns contributed to the Axiom mission in tangible ways. For example, communications and marketing intern Valerie Agyeman helped write this news release for posting on the Axiom website.
