TRICARE Awards Axiom $8.1 Million Consolidation Contract

Falls Church, Virginia - TRICARE Management Activity (TMA), the U.S. Defense Department's managed healthcare program serving 8.7 million active duty service personnel, dependents, and retirees, announced last week the award of an $8.12 million management support contract to Axiom Resource Management, Inc.
Axiom, a consulting firm providing managerial, technical, and information technology services to private businesses and public sector clients nationwide, has been a respected TMA business partner since 1996, the year both organizations were founded. Under the terms of its new contract, Axiom will provide TMA's Operations Directorate a broad array of program management services.

TMA contracts with private sector managed care corporations that oversee health care networks offering medical services wherever U.S. military personnel and their families are stationed, nationwide and globally. TMA's Operations Directorate is responsible for evaluating the performance of the contracts that cover hospitalization, physician services, dental care, and pharmaceutical benefits. The directorate's workload has increased in recent years as eligibility expanded to include retired military senior citizens and spouses and benefits expanded to include pharmaceutical and dental coverage.
The newly awarded contract consolidates program support services previously provided by four private contractors, including Axiom. The new contract, for a single base year of service and four one-year options for renewal, will nearly double the number of Axiom consultants working for the directorate.
According to Kevin Riley, a Partner, the consolidation is an economizing measure "intended to reduce administrative overhead costs and respond to a renewed emphasize on government belt-tightening." The award will contribute to the continued growth of Axiom's sales and market presence in this business area.
Peardon described the award as an endorsement of Axiom's overall management approach. All incumbent firms competed for the consolidation award, and each firm possessed the experience and competency needed to win the contract.
