Robinson Students Complete Internship Training at Axiom

January 27, 2006

Falls Church, Virginia. Last September, the Minority Students of Robinson (MSR) Secondary School formed an academic-business partnership with Axiom Resource Management, Inc. As part of the partnership (known as "Robinson 555") five MSR students would have the opportunity to complete one-day internships at Axiom. On Jan 27th, the students left the hallowed halls of Robinson and immersed themselves in the world of business.

Axiom hosted interns in five business areas: communications and marketing (Claris Bangura), human resources (Bianca Neston), accounting (Bradley Miller), web-based technology (Bih Ndimufor), and web-based design (Sharita Betourd).

"We are extremely proud to be partners with the Minority Students of Robinson," said Axiom Partner Doug Peardon. "We hope the internships will offer students a glimpse of the exciting professional opportunities that await them in the future," he said.

The MSR interns received the same orientation briefing that Axiom's new employees receive. After this overview of Axiom's business goals, products, and priorities, the interns went to work in their respective business areas. After a business lunch in Alexandria, the students returned to Axiom to complete their afternoon training sessions. Axiom's top executives met with the students for a roundtable question and answer session late in the day, and the internship concluded with the presentation of their internship certificates.

Tessie Wilson, Member, Braddock District, Fairfax County School Board, and Deloris Witcher, Director, Minority Students of Robinson program, attended both the roundtable discussion and the "graduation." At the ceremony, Ms. Wilson presented a letter of appreciation to Mr. Peardon, in recognition of Axiom's support for the Minority Students of Robinson.

"This was a great experience," said Bradley Miller. I learned a lot about the business world, and especially about accounting."

The interns contributed to the Axiom mission in tangible ways. In fact, communications and marketing intern Claris Bangura helped write this news release for posting on the Axiom website.

"We'd like to hire these students today," said Axiom Vice President Michael Thornton. "But we can wait a few years for them to finish their education first!"
