Robinson Secondary Students Complete Axiom Internships
January 25, 2007
Falls Church, Virginia. Five students from Robinson Secondary School (Fairfax, Virginia) have completed a one-day business internship at Axiom Resource Management, Incorporated.
In September 2005, the Minority Students of Robinson (MSR) formed an academic-business partnership with Axiom. The program, known as "Robinson 555," has three components: five MSR students per year have the opportunity to complete one-day internships at Axiom; five students annually participate with Axiom in "Rebuilding Together Alexandria," a community-assistance effort to improve the quality of housing for impoverished, elderly, or shut-in residents; five students (one per year for five years) receive $1,000 college scholarships from Axiom.
Axiom hosted interns in three business areas: communications and marketing (Manjot "MJ" Jassal, Eden Zeilo, and Kenneth Williams), human resources (Michael Daniel), and accounting (Faith Spillman).
"Axiom is proud to host these outstanding students for a day of training," said Doug Douglas Peardon, Axiom partner. "This is our second year hosting MSR interns, and we find that our staff is truly energized by their presence here at headquarter."
The MSR interns received an Axiom "new employee orientation" briefing to start the day. After this overview of Axiom's business goals, products, and priorities, the interns went to work in their respective business areas. After a business lunch in Alexandria, the students returned to Axiom to complete their afternoon training sessions. Axiom's top executives met with the students for a roundtable question-and-answer session late in the day, and the internship concluded with the presentation of their internship certificates.
"This was an educational and enlightening experience," said intern Michael Daniel. "I learned some of the ins and outs of the human resources field, and had a truly enjoyable day," he said.
The interns contributed to the Axiom mission in tangible ways. The communications and marketing interns helped write this news release for posting on the Axiom website.
Deloris Witcher, Director, Minority Students of Robinson program, thanked Axiom for providing this invaluable experience. "This is a wonderful experience for our students," she said, "After they graduate from college, I hope they all consider careers in business."
